For this year’s anniversary edition, the special theme of the workshop is **"The Future of Software Evolution"**. We particularly welcome submissions that take a historical perspective on a particular facet of software evolution research, practice or education, argue for the current challenges, and speculate on what the future might bring. He joined SSEL on january 1st, 2007 after receiving a grant by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel to establish a post-doctoral position. He was awarded his PhD degree in 2006 at the same university where he also obtained a degree 'Licentiaat in de Toegepaste Informatica' (comparable to Master in Applied Computer Science) in 1997. He started his research career as a teaching assistant at the Computer Science Department in 1997. His research at that time was in the area of database systems and linguistic tools under supervision of [[http://starlab.vub.ac.be/website/staff/Prof.Dr.R.Meersman|Prof. Dr. Robert Meersman]] at the [[http://starlab.vub.ac.be/|Semantics Technology & Applications Research Laboratory]]. In 1999 he reoriented his research in the area of programming languages and software engineering when he joined the [[http://prog.vub.ac.be/|Programming Technology Lab]] under supervision of [[http://prog.vub.ac.be/~tjdhondt|Prof. Dr. Theo D'Hondt]]. During the years 1999 - 2006 he participated in several research projects with industry: * **CCOOS** (1999): 'Compliance Checking on Object-Oriented Systems' - performed in collaboration with Getronics. * **SoFa** (1999-2002): 'Component Development and Product Assembly in a Software Factory - Organisation, Process and Tools' - an IWT-funded research project, performed in collaboration with EDS Belgium and Mediagenix. * **MPEG Research Project** (2002-2003): performed in collaboration with Belgian Television (VRT), IMEC and ETRO. * **Advanced Media** (2003-2005): in collaboration with Belgian Television (VRT) and the Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology (IBBT). * **ARRIBA** (2005-2006): 'Architectural Resources for the Restructuring and Integration of Business Applications' - an IWT-funded research project in collaboration with Universiteit Antwerpen, and Universiteit Gent. Currently he is funded by the [[http://prog.vub.ac.be/moves/|MoVES IAP Project]] (2007-2011), which is part of the Interuniversity Attraction Poles programme (Belgian State - [[http://www.belspo.be/|Belgian Science Policy Office]]). The goal of this project is to establish a network between several Belgian and EU universities on the topic of the **Modelling**, **Evolution** and **Verification** of Software. The research topics he was (and still is) involved in cover a wide range in the domain of **software and programming language engineering**. His research is always backed up by the development of tool-implementations in order to validate the underlying ideas. He typically addresses the research challenges from a programmer's perspective. The overall theme of his research can be broadly characterised as **meta programming**, **software evolution/variability**, and **co-evolution of models and code**. In these domains he is actively investigating new programming techniques, abstractions, architectures, and language features that enable the development of flexible and malleable software implementations. Currently he is pursuing [[http://ssel.vub.ac.be/c3/|Concept-Centric Coding (C3)]] as a novel approach for achieving malleable and documented software implementations.
